Non-destructive testing (NDT) is an indispensable component of the Quality assurance in metal and steel construction.
With modern testing methods Surface defects, pores, cracks or binding defects at an early stage - without damaging the component.
As VT2/PT2-certified tester according to DIN EN ISO 9712 and International Welding Engineer (IWE) I carry out visual and penetration tests and document the results according to standard, reproducible and court-proof.
Test procedure at a glance
Visual inspection (VT according to DIN EN ISO 9712 / 17637)
Visual inspection is the most important non-destructive method for early detection of surface defects.
I check the weld seam geometry, root penetration, penetration notches, distortion, dimensional accuracy and general seam quality.
The assessment is carried out using magnifying glasses, endoscopes, measuring gauges and special lighting.
Typical findings:
- Incomplete weld penetration
- Binding error
- Excessive amplification
- Cracks in the heat-affected zone
Penetrant testing (PT according to DIN EN ISO 9712 / 3452)
The penetration test (penetration test) is used to very fine cracks or pores that are invisible to the naked eye to recognize.
After applying a red or fluorescent penetrant, defects are made visible.
Areas of application:
- Weld seams on stainless steel, aluminium or galvanized steel
- Cast and forged parts
- Sheet metal, beams, brackets, connections
Typical findings:
- Microcracks
- Pores
- Surface defects due to welding distortion or grinding work
Scope of testing and evaluation
I carry out non-destructive testing (NDT) as part of expert reports, quality assurance or production monitoring:
- Testing of weld seams on building and industrial structures
- Acceptance tests in steel and plant construction
- Quality assurance in accordance with EN 1090 / ISO 3834
- Testing of stainless steel components after surface treatment
- Testing of welded joints in facades, railings, supporting structures
- Documentation for operators, courts and certification bodies
Advantages of non-destructive testing
✔️ Fault detection without intervention in the component
✔️ Immediate evaluation on site
✔️ Comparison with standard requirements according to DIN EN ISO 5817 / 10042
✔️ Minimization of rework and downtimes
✔️ Court-proof documentation with photo and test report
Procedure for the audit
- Preparation of the surface
Cleaning, degreasing and visual inspection of the test area. - Test execution (VT / PT)
Visual inspection or penetration test with certified material. - Evaluation & documentation
Classification of defects according to DIN EN ISO 5817 / 10042. - Creation of the test report
Photo documentation, dimensions, evaluation and recommendation.
