Windows, doors & conservatories - appraisals, testing and evaluation

Windows, doors and conservatories are among the most most sensitive components in metal construction - they not only influence the Energy efficiency and safety, but also the Serviceability and building protection
As Publicly appointed and sworn expert for the metalworking trade I test metal, aluminum and plastic systems for Installation quality, tightness, fittings, statics and thermal insulationaccording to DIN, RAL and the recognized rules of technology.

The aim is to Objective, comprehensible evaluation of damage, execution errors or deviations - regardless of whether it concerns Warranty issues, preservation of evidence or renovation goes.

Scope of testing and evaluation

I assess window, door and conservatory constructions on the following points:

  • Tightness against driving rain and air permeability
    → Test according to DIN EN 12207 / 12208 / 1027, RAL installation guideline.
  • Thermal insulation and energy efficiency
→ Valuation according to DIN 4108, GEG, insulating glazing, frame profiles.
  • Assembly and sealing
→ Check fastening, connection joints and installation situation.
  • Function and fittings technology
→ Testing of turn/tilt mechanism, interlocks, tolerances.
  • Burglar resistance (RC classes)
→ Detection and control according to DIN EN 1627-1630, RC1N to RC3.
  • Sound insulation and comfort
→ Assessment according to DIN 4109, especially for special constructions and conservatories.

Typical defects and damage patterns

In practice, similar faults occur time and again, which impair usability or service life.
Common findings are:

  • Leaks at window connections and sealing joints
  • Frames that are warped or not mounted plumb and level
  • Incorrect fastening of the frame anchors or screw connection
  • Condensation or mold formation due to thermal bridges
  • Defective or unadjusted fittings
  • Insufficient corrosion protection for aluminum profiles or fittings

Procedure for the assessment

  1. On-site inspection
Recording of the actual condition, inspection of the installation situation, measurements of joints, alignment, deformation and moisture.
  2. Technical analysis
Evaluation based on construction plans, tenders, product data sheets and photos.
  3. Comparison of standards
Comparison with the recognized rules of technology (DIN, RAL, ift Rosenheim).
  4. Preparation of expert opinions
Documentation with photo documentation, measurement logs and assessment.

Important regulations

  • DIN EN 14351-1 - Performance characteristics of windows and doors
  • RAL installation guidelines (RAL-GZ 695) - Professional assembly
  • DIN EN 1627-1630 - Burglar resistance (RC classes)
  • DIN 4108 - Thermal insulation
  • DIN 4109 - Sound insulation
  • GEG 2020 - Building Energy Act
